Sweet and Excellent for Juicing!
Valencia Midknight is a South African Valencia-type orange with large, juicy, virtually seedless fruit and excellent flavour for fresh eating or juicing.
The Valencia Midknight Orange is a South African Valencia-type orange, properly spelt Midknight. It was selected from Valencia orange trees in South Africa and is prized for large, juicy fruit with very few seeds.
This is a proper juice orange, but it is also good for fresh eating if you enjoy a sweet orange with a bright citrus flavour. The fruit is usually medium to large, often slightly oblong, with high juice content and a strong orange flavour.
Midknight is generally a later-season Valencia type. In South African gardens, exact harvest timing will depend on climate, tree age and local conditions, but Valencia-type oranges are usually picked after the main navel season.
The tree has glossy evergreen foliage and fragrant white citrus blossoms. It can be slower to establish than some standard Valencias, but with full sun, good drainage, steady watering and regular citrus feeding, it becomes a productive home orchard tree.
Our Valencia Midknight Orange Trees are supplied in 5L bags and are grafted onto citrus rootstock for reliable establishment and earlier fruiting.
Medium to large Valencia-type orange, often slightly oblong, with orange rind and juicy, virtually seedless flesh. Evergreen tree with glossy foliage, fragrant white blossoms and large leaves compared with many standard Valencia selections.
Later-season Valencia-type orange, usually after the main navel season. Local timing varies by climate and tree maturity.
These are grafted trees, so they can produce fruit in the first year of planting if they are mature enough and growing well.
Moderate growth. Midknight can be slower to establish than some standard Valencias, but forms a productive evergreen citrus tree with good care.
Can be grown in a large container while young and maintained in a pot with regular pruning, feeding and watering, although it is better as a garden tree long term.
Full sun is best. Aim for at least 6-8 hours of direct sun daily.
Water deeply and consistently while flowering and fruiting. Avoid waterlogged soil and protect container trees from drying out completely in hot weather.
Frost sensitive, especially when young. Plant in a warm, sheltered position and protect from frost.
No winter chilling required. Valencia Midknight is an evergreen citrus and fruits without a cold dormancy period.
Valencia Midknight Orange Trees are self-fertile and can produce fruit without another orange tree nearby.
Plant in well-drained soil enriched with compost. Feed with citrus fertiliser from spring to autumn and water consistently during fruit development. Prune lightly in spring to shape the tree and remove dead or crossing branches. Remove suckers from below the graft union.
