Cara Cara Navel Orange Tree for Sale

The Cara Cara Navel Orange is one of the most beautiful eating oranges you can grow. From the outside it looks like a classic navel orange, but cut it open and the flesh is pink to reddish-orange, with a softer acidity and a sweet, almost berry-like citrus flavour.

Cara Cara is a navel orange, so it is mainly grown for fresh eating rather than long-standing juice. The fruit is seedless, easy to slice, lovely in fruit salads and excellent eaten straight from the tree. It is also a good choice for children because the flavour is sweet without the sharpness some oranges have.

The tree is evergreen with glossy foliage, fragrant blossoms and a naturally productive habit when grown in full sun. Like other navels, Cara Cara does best with steady watering while fruit is developing and regular feeding during the growing season.

Cara Cara is self-fertile and does not need another orange tree to fruit. Give it a warm, sheltered position, protect it from frost while young, and plant in well-drained soil.

Our Cara Cara Navel Orange Trees are supplied in 5L bags and are grafted onto citrus rootstock for reliable establishment and earlier fruiting.

Navel Orange Tree - Cara Cara

Appearance

Navel orange with normal orange skin and distinctive pink to reddish-orange flesh inside. Fruit is usually seedless with a small navel and sweet, low-acid flavour.

Harvest Time

Early to mid-season navel orange, usually ripening in winter. Local timing varies by climate.

Year to Bear

These are grafted trees, so they can produce fruit in the first year of planting if they are mature enough and growing well.

Growth Rate

Moderate evergreen citrus growth. Can reach 3-5m if left unpruned, but can be shaped for a smaller home garden tree.

Container Friendly?

Suitable for large containers if given full sun, excellent drainage, regular feeding and consistent watering.

Sunlight

Full sun is best. Aim for at least 6-8 hours of direct sun daily.

Watering

Water deeply and consistently, especially during flowering and fruit development. Avoid waterlogged soil.

Temperature

Frost sensitive, especially when young. Plant in a warm, sheltered position and protect from frost.

Chilling

No winter chilling required. Cara Cara is an evergreen citrus and fruits without a cold dormancy period.

Pollination Info

Cara Cara Navel Orange Trees are self-fertile. One tree can produce fruit without a pollinating partner.

Planting & Care Guide

Plant in well-drained soil enriched with compost. Feed with citrus fertiliser from spring to autumn. Prune lightly to shape the tree and remove dead, crossing or damaged wood. Remove suckers from below the graft union.
