Sweet, Low-Fibre Mid-Season Mango!
The Kent Mango is a mid-season variety prized for its outstanding eating quality — juicy, very sweet, low-fibre flesh with a rich, tropical flavour. One of the most popular commercial eating mangoes in the world.
Self-fertile — one tree produces fruit without a pollinating partner.
If eating quality is your priority, the Kent Mango is one of the finest choices you can make. Widely regarded as one of the best commercial eating mango varieties in the world, the Kent produces large, attractive fruit with juicy, deep yellow-orange flesh that is very sweet, very low in fibre and richly flavoured — a mango that needs nothing more than a knife and a plate to fully appreciate.
The fruit is large and round to oval, with attractive skin that blushes from yellow-green to deep red and orange as it ripens. The colouring makes ripeness easy to judge — look for a full blush and slight give when pressed. The flesh ratio is excellent, with a relatively small pit and abundant flesh right to the skin.
The Kent is a mid-season variety, ripening from December to February and fitting neatly into the heart of the South African summer mango season. It is self-fertile — a single tree will produce a harvest without needing a second tree for cross-pollination. Grafted trees begin bearing within 2–4 years.
Like all mangoes, the Kent is strictly subtropical and suited only to warm, frost-free growing areas — primarily KwaZulu-Natal, the Mpumalanga lowveld and Limpopo.

No chilling requirement.
Self-fertile. A single tree will produce fruit without needing a pollinating partner.
Plant in deep, well-drained soil in a warm, sunny, frost-free position. Mangoes are deep-rooting trees that need space and warmth to thrive.
Feed regularly with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season. Reduce irrigation during the dry pre-flowering period (typically May–July) to encourage good flower bud development — this is the single most important management step for getting a reliable mango harvest.
Prune lightly after harvest to maintain the tree's size and shape. Heavy pruning is not recommended as it delays the following season's fruit.
