Sweet, Low-Fibre Mid-Season Mango!
Kensington is a classic Australian mango with rich, sweet, fibre-free flesh and a distinctive tropical flavour — excellent fresh eating and for juice.
Grafted tree for warmer, frost-free gardens and large containers in protected spots.
Kensington (often sold as Kensington Pride) is one of the world's best-known mango cultivars — sweet, aromatic and low in fibre, with that classic mango perfume. It thrives in warm, frost-free South African gardens.
Plant in deep, well-drained soil in full sun. Reduce watering in the dry pre-flowering period to encourage good flowering. Self-fertile; one tree is enough for a home crop.
Note: This is Kensington — not Kent (MAN-KEN) or Keitt (MAN-KEI).
A large, oval to round mango with attractive yellow-green skin blushed deep red or orange when ripe. The flesh is deep yellow-orange, juicy, very sweet with minimal fibre and an outstanding flavour. An excellent eating mango.
Mid-season — ripens from December to February.
Grafted trees can produce fruit within 2–4 years. Self-fertile — no pollinating partner required.
Moderate to vigorous. Can reach 5–8m if unpruned but responds well to regular pruning. Dense evergreen canopy. A beautiful shade tree as well as a productive fruit tree.
Can be grown in a large container with regular pruning to manage size. Best in warmest, most sheltered position available.
Full sun essential. Mangoes need heat and long sunny days to develop and ripen fruit.
Water regularly when young. Once established, reduce watering in the dry season before flowering to encourage bud set.
Strictly subtropical to tropical. Frost-sensitive — suited only to warm, frost-free growing areas.
No chilling requirement.
Self-fertile. A single tree will produce fruit without needing a pollinating partner.
Plant in deep, well-drained soil in a warm, sunny, frost-free position. Mangoes are deep-rooting trees that need space and warmth to thrive.
Feed regularly with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season. Reduce irrigation during the dry pre-flowering period (typically May–July) to encourage good flower bud development — this is the single most important management step for getting a reliable mango harvest.
Prune lightly after harvest to maintain the tree's size and shape. Heavy pruning is not recommended as it delays the following season's fruit.
