The Keitt Mango is one of the most sought-after mango varieties in the world. It is a late-season variety that extends the mango harvest season well into autumn, producing very large, impressively sized mangoes with sweet, smooth, completely fibreless flesh and a small seed relative to the generous flesh yield.
One of the things that makes the Keitt Mango unique is its skin – it remains green when fully ripe, which surprises many people! The ripe fruit gives slightly to gentle pressure and has a wonderful tropical fragrance. Don't let the green skin fool you – a ripe Keitt Mango is sweet, aromatic and absolutely delicious.
The Keitt Mango Tree is a vigorous, large evergreen tree that becomes a stunning feature in the garden. Its glossy, dark green leaves provide excellent shade and the large fruit is a spectacular sight in summer and autumn.

Keitt Mango Trees thrive in the warm, frost-free subtropical and tropical areas of South Africa, particularly Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, and the warmer areas of the Northern Cape.
Appearance
Very large, oval mango with smooth, green skin that remains green when fully ripe, sometimes developing a slight pinkish blush. The flesh is deep orange-yellow, exceptionally sweet, smooth and completely fibreless. The seed is small, leaving a very generous amount of flesh.
Harvest Time
Late season harvest – February to April, making it one of the last mango varieties to ripen and extending the season beautifully.
Year to Bear
These are grafted trees so they can produce fruit within 3–5 years of planting, and often sooner!
Growth Rate
Moderate to fast growing. Can reach 10m or more if left unpruned. Best pruned to 4–5m for easy harvesting in a home garden.
Container Friendly?
Young Keitt Mango Trees can be grown in large containers and kept to a manageable size with regular pruning, though they prefer to be in the ground for maximum production.
Watering
Deep watering once a week during the growing season. Reduce watering significantly during winter (May to August) as mangoes require a drier, cooler rest period to stimulate flowering. Over-watering in winter will prevent flowering.
Temperature
Frost sensitive – requires warm, frost-free conditions. Best suited to the warmer subtropical regions of South Africa. Young trees must be protected from frost.
Chilling
Requires a dry, slightly cooler period in winter (June to August) to stimulate flowering. Do not over-water during this period.
Pollination Info
Keitt Mango Trees are self-fertile and a single tree will produce fruit. Planting more than one mango variety in the garden will encourage cross-pollination by bees and other insects, which can improve fruit set.
Planting & Care Guide
Plant in deep, well-drained soil in a warm, frost-free, sunny position. Add generous amounts of compost to the planting hole to improve soil structure and fertility.
Feed with a balanced fruit tree fertiliser during the growing season and avoid heavy nitrogen applications in winter. Prune after harvest to maintain a manageable size and improve light and air penetration.
