Fresh limes from your own garden are a culinary revelation. The vibrancy of flavour and fragrance of a freshly picked lime is incomparable to anything you'll find in a shop. With a Bearss Lime Tree in your garden, you'll never be caught without limes for your guacamole, ceviche, or gin and tonic again!
The Bearss Lime Tree is an evergreen tree with beautiful, glossy dark green foliage and fragrant white blossoms. It is a compact, manageable tree that thrives in a sunny position and can also be grown successfully in a large container on a patio or balcony.
Our Bearss Lime Trees for sale are grafted onto citrus rootstock, ensuring earlier fruiting, consistent fruit quality, and more vigorous growth.
Medium to large, oval, seedless lime with smooth, thin, bright green skin that turns pale yellow when fully ripe (best picked while still green). The flesh is juicy, highly acidic, and seedless with an excellent tangy flavour and pleasant fragrance.
Almost year-round bearing with peak harvest from May to August.
These are grafted trees so they can produce fruit in the first year of planting!
Moderate growing. Can reach 3–5m if left unpruned. Responds well to pruning and can be kept compact for easy harvesting.
Bearss Lime Trees grow very well in large containers and are an excellent choice for gardeners with limited space. A large pot in a sunny, warm position works very well.
The Bearss Lime Tree grows best in full sun – at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day. A warm, sheltered, north-facing position is ideal in South Africa.
Moderate and consistent watering. Water once a week by thoroughly soaking the root zone. Allow the soil to partially dry between waterings. Container-grown trees may need more frequent watering during hot weather.
Frost sensitive – the Bearss Lime is less cold-tolerant than lemons. Protect from any frost, especially when young. Best suited to frost-free coastal and subtropical regions of South Africa.
No winter chilling required. The Bearss Lime is an evergreen citrus tree that fruits without a cold period and is quite frost sensitive – grow in a warm, sheltered spot.
Bearss Lime Trees are self-fertile and produce excellent crops without the need for a pollinating partner. A single tree will provide an abundant harvest of seedless limes.
Plant in well-drained soil enriched with compost in a warm, sunny, sheltered, frost-free position. Good drainage is essential as citrus trees dislike wet roots.
Feed with a specialised citrus fertiliser from early spring through to autumn. Regular feeding encourages lush growth and a heavy fruit set.
Prune lightly in spring to maintain shape and improve airflow. Remove rootstock suckers immediately.
